Armed robber gets trigger happy

Three armed robbers robbed and shot one of their victims at MTN taxi rank around 7.30pm recently.
It is alleged that three suspects robbed a 24-year-old man together with his three brothers at the MTN Taxi Rank in the inner-city, this incident happened on the 14th of November.

In a statement issued by the Johannesburg Central SAPS, Captain Xoli Mbele revealed that the victims were attacked by unknown assailants while closing shop for the day. In a quest to make fast and easy money from other men’s sweat, three gun wielding criminals approached the brothers and pointed firearms at them, demanding money and cellphones.

It is further alleged that the robbers also took a leather jacket belonging to one of the victims, then ordered their victims to run away. As they ran one shot was fired, hitting one of the men in the upper body. An ambulance managed to take the wounded man to hospital.

According to Captain Mbele, the robbers were later on spotted by one of the victims who alerted the police. “When they saw a police vehicle they started to run away. One suspect was apprehended, and  a firearm with no serial number as well as the stolen jacket were confisticated from him,” Captain Mbele said.

Man stabbed by alleged security guards

It is alleged that three security guards stabbed a 26-year-old male on the 11th of November. The victim was walking when three males  confronted him, demanding money. It is further alleged that one of the  suspects assaulted the victim with fists.

As the assault heated the victim retaliated, the other two then stabbed their victim several times in the upper body and pepper sprayed him.
Police came to his rescue and apprehended the three suspects, confisticating the knife and pepper sprays. The assaulted man was taken to hospital by an ambulance.

15 years in jail for robbing an officer

A 33 year-old-male was found guilty for armed robbery and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment at Johannesburg Magistrate Court.

It is alleged that, on the 23rd of January 2016 at around 8pm, three suspects robbed a Police Officer at corner Bree and Mooi Street. The officer was driving a grey Audi Q5 when he reached a red robot.

As he observed the red robot, three males approached him and one pointed him with a firearm. They took his cell phone and police appointment card before they fled the scene.

Through the help of the community, the  suspect was apprehended at Egoli Inn Hotel corner Noord and Quartz Street later in April 2016.
