Man gets 40 years jail for robbing, kidnapping and raping woman

Johannesburg - The Johannesburg Magistrate Court has jailed a rapist, kidnapper and armed robber for 40 years, according to police.

Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele says the man, Lephalo Lenka, 31, was found  guilty of rape, kidnapping and armed robbery and sentenced to 40 years imprisonment. ìOn 8 November 2014 a woman was confronted by three males at corner End and Kerk streets. One of them pointed a firearm at her and took her R850. They then took her to a nearby mnyamandawo, where one of them threatened her with a knife and raped her several times. The victim requested the suspect to buy her some food; they both left the dark building to buy food at Culture Inn club at corner Rahima Moosa and Mooi streets. While the man was buying food the victim told the security guard at the club that she had been raped, and pointed the man out. The matter was reported to police and he was arrested, and found to be armed with a knife.î

Bogus job agent held for rape

Warrant Officer Mbele adds that police have arrested a 23-year old man for rape, who was found inside a shop at corner Rahima Moosa and Joubert streets last Friday.  ìIt is alleged that the suspect raped a 19-year old female student at a building in corner Marshall and Nugget streets on 10 December. He allegedly promised the victim a job at the Dischem pharmacy; and the woman knew the suspect through her friend. The suspect took her to the building; where he allegedly raped her and left her there. Later the victim met the suspect in the shop and called the police, and he was arrested.î

Warrant Officer Mbele warns women not to become victims of rape in this manner.

Don't trust people who promise you work and want to meet you in secluded places, he says.
